The Troublemaker Scholarship

The troublemaker scholarship exists to help support unconventional approaches so addressing social issues using art and activism. Financial assistance, promotion, and mentorship is provided to the recipient. This includes up to $1,500 in cash in addition to in-kind support valued at thousands of dollars. Enrollment in a school is not required.

General eligibility requirements: 

  • Preference is given to those who are able to incorporate their Asian Pacific Islander identity into their work.

  • Have demonstrated leadership or innovation through participation in community service or other activities.  

  • Strong preference for projects to be completed by Dec 31, 2020.

Selection criteria:

  • Quality of content submission (responses, portfolio)

  • Leadership/community service experience and contribution

  • Letters of recommendation

  • Interview

  1. How do you use your art to advance an unconventional idea around activism?

  2. What are some ways you’ll connect your work with local organizations to give back to your community?

  3. How has your connection with your identity shaped your art or activism?

  4. What is the art & activism project that you’d like to create?

  5. How will you use the funds and mentoring to help you develop your work?

  6. What do you intend on doing to make this project sustainable or how will it contribute to your career as an artist?
